Join me in exploring my decision-making blueprint—a four-step approach that's guided me through countless dilemmas.



1. Step Away from the Issue


When the weight of a decision feels overwhelming, the first step is to take a step back. Create mental space by temporarily distancing yourself from the issue. Whether it's a short walk, a moment of meditation, or a change of scenery, allowing your mind to breathe can provide fresh perspectives.


2. On Paper: Write Out Pros and Cons:


Grab a pen and paper—there's something magical about the tangible act of writing. List out the pros and cons of each option you're considering. This process not only organizes your thoughts but also unveils the factors influencing your decision. Seeing it on paper adds a layer of clarity that can be elusive when thoughts swirl in your mind.


3. Examine the Facts Objectively:


Dive into the facts. Separate emotions from the equation and examine the objective details. What data or information is available? What are the potential outcomes of each choice? By grounding your decision in facts, you equip yourself with a sturdy foundation that withstands the turbulence of uncertainty.


4. When in Doubt, "Heck Yes!" or No:


Embrace the power of clarity. If a decision feels murky, apply the "Heck Yes or No" rule. If the option doesn't resonate with a resounding "Heck Yes," it might be a "No." This approach sharpens your focus, guiding you towards decisions that align with your values and aspirations.


Putting the Blueprint into Action: A Real-Life Example


Let's walk through an example using this decision-making blueprint. Suppose you're contemplating a career change:


  1. Step Away: Take a break from the career dilemma. Spend a weekend engaging in activities you love to clear your mind.
